Strengthening Governance in Kenya’s Oil & Gas Sector

Kenya Oil and Gas Working Group (KOGWG) works to ensure that oil, gas, and extractive resource development in Kenya is transparent, accountable, inclusive, and beneficial to communities. Our work focuses on empowering citizens, influencing policy, and strengthening governance systems so that natural resources contribute to equitable and sustainable development.

What We Do

Our work focuses on empowering citizens, influencing policy, and strengthening governance systems so that natural resources contribute to equitable and sustainable development.

Policy, Law & Regulatory Advocacy

We analyse and influence policies, laws, and regulations governing the oil and gas sector to ensure they protect public interest, community rights, and environmental sustainability.

Community Land & Resource Rights

We support communities to understand, defend, and claim their land and resource rights in areas affected by oil, gas, and extractive activities.

Research & Evidence-Based Advocacy

We conduct and disseminate research to inform public debate, policy decisions, and advocacy efforts related to extractive governance.

Citizen Monitoring & Accountability

We strengthen citizen participation and oversight by supporting community monitoring of extractive projects, revenue use, and public commitments.

Campaigns & Public Engagement

We organise and support campaigns that amplify citizen voices, promote transparency, and demand accountability from duty bearers in the extractives sector.

Coalition Building & Convening

We bring together civil society organisations, communities, and stakeholders to build strong coalitions for collective action and shared learning.

Our Approach

Our work is grounded in participatory, rights-based, and evidence-driven approaches that centre communities and promote inclusive decision-making.
